Participate | Why & How? |

Everyone can be kind. People standing next to you bend down to pick up things that fall from your armload of groceries. The little boy in the park shares his plastic shovel to help another child dig out a toy. Ordinary everyday acts of kindness are all around. But we forget. Even acts of kindness we have done or experienced.
The Remember Kindness Project invites people to remember a kind act. In remembering we recognize. In recognizing we acknowledge. In acknowledging we come to a new understanding of everyday actions.
Share a memory of a kind act you have done or experienced. Add to our stories of kindness.

Why share memories?
Memories make us think. We reflect when we remember. We get a glimpse of ourselves in another place and time. Then when we share these glimpses we come to know a little bit about each other. We connect. Memories are part of our story. Stirring and sharing a memory reminds us that we are not alone.

How does sharing a memory of a kind act help?
A kind act is a positive expression. Remembering it generates a positive emotion even if briefly. But emotions linger for a long while. A regular practice of remembering positive experiences can shape our interactions and the way we view life. Positive emotions move us to act positively.

Who participates? How?
The earlier we start a positive practice the better. Children and care-givers are invited to participate as are artists and everyone who knows that taking another perspective helps.

  • Simply remembering a kind act frequently is fine.
  • Posting the memory in this blog’s comments section or emailing your memory to us is helpful.

Schools
We can send an artist to lead a school-wide ‘Remember Kindness’ workshop that engages students in reflecting on the theme of kindness and making related art works. These works are then displayed in the school community. Alternatively, schools can order a starter kit that supports teachers in engaging and encouraging students to reflect and work on the theme of kindness and compassion.
